It’s that time of year again. Halloween can be a good thing or a bad thing for pets. And it’s up to you how it turns out.
If you happen to have a dog that you loves people and loves getting out and about and is okay with noise dressing up for Halloween—and the dog seems okay with this—then you are off and trick or treating. But be careful of as this night is more than just a little tricky. More on that later. Of course you shouldn’t force your dog to wear a Halloween costume, no matter how cute they seem to look. For many dogs this is definitely not their thing. And as owners we have to respect that.
If you are looking for cute last minute Halloween costumes for your pet Bon Pet Supply, one of our partners, has a nice selection of pet costumes. Republic of Paws has some great ones as well.
Now, on to ways that Halloween can be not so fun or even tragic for your pet. Most would agree it’s not a good idea to go trick or treating with your dog. They can get over excited and might knock over or scare little children. However if you do insist on taking your dog please make sure they are leashed. With all the activity of trick or treating you don’t want your pet racing across the street and getting struck by a car. Also make sure you keep treats away from your dog. Sure they love them but it’s not that great for them to eat and in some cases—downright dangerous. Not only is chocolate bad but some sugar substitutes are poisonous to animals. Things we might ingest on a daily basis are very harmful for your pets.
So be safe this Halloween and keep your pet away from the treats and on leash if you insist on taking them around the neighborhood.
