Every now and then I get to work with really talented people on fun projects. That was the case recently working with the folks of the Downtown Partnership on their Dogs of Downtown 2017 Calendar project.
It all began with a sweet little French bulldog named Gurdy who visited the offices of the Downtown Partnership. They fell in love with her and decided there needed to be a Calendar celebrating the dogs of downtown—those dogs who hang out on a regular basis at the offices and shops in the downtown core. The ones known by the clients and customers who visit those places.
So Laurel Prud’homme, Communications Director for the Downtown Partnership made a list, visited the owners and planned out the calendar. Together we photographed 21 dogs for the 12 months in a little over two weeks! It was a bit of a whirlwind adventure but we had fun and managed to get some pretty fun images of these dogs to represent the locations where they reside. The calendar is only the dogs—no owners—but each page represents the stores or offices with a variety of props. All of the photography was done in studio so the owners get kudos for hauling in props and setting up each shot. Laurel added her artist gifts to the set design as well as the whole of the calendar.
The calendars are on sale for $16 at Poor Richards, CJ Kard and Hooked on Books in the Downtown area. All proceeds go to support Downtown Ventures. But you need to hurry—there are only 250 calendars printed so they will go quickly.
Take a peek at the video above—it shows behind the scenes video footage of each session we did for the calendar—and there were some hilarious moments as well as goofy outtakes.
