A lot of people see a great dog portrait and want one. But how do you go about getting started in the process? Well first off we suggest you come meet with us for a no cost consultation. This is about 15-20 minutes where you can bring your dog (or dogs) to the Studio and have a meet and greet.
This is great for the dog—they get used to the studio smells and then meet the photographer. This will lower their stress when they come back for their portrait session. It also give you and idea on pricing and we will discuss what type of portrait you are looking for. You can also see the options for wall portraits. We’ll discuss backdrops as well as color of clothing if you wish to be in the portrait with your dog.
We will also briefly discuss how to prepare your dog for the session. You’ll want to bring special treats (if food motivated) and/or toys to help get their attention. If getting your dog groomed we recommend you planning the session maybe a week later in case the hair is cut too short. You’ll want to exercise your dog just before the session—especially relevant for younger dogs. Wear them out a little! If they’re tired and a tad hungry during the session it’ll help.
Don’t overly stress out about your dog’s behavior. Dogs will be dogs and like little kids they sometimes act out. We’re used to it and we can still get some great photographs. If you stress out during the session your dog will pick up on it and stress as well. Relax and your dog will too.
